NZ Geochemical and Mineralogical Society
NZGeMS is a society for geochemists, geologists,
mineralogists
and chemists with a common interest in NZ geochemistry and mineralogy.
The society fulfils the role of bringing together all
interdisciplinary interests related to geochemistry and mineralogy, and
providing a forum for the exchange of ideas and research results.
It was originally set up as the "New Zealand Geochemical Group", and
focussed initially on geothermal, isotope and experimental fluid
geochemistry. However, it has come to include all aspects of
geochemistry including environmental, ore deposit, mineral and
antarctic geochemistry. In 2003 it incorporated the New
Zealand Mineralogical Society. The joint society welcomes all new
facets of geochemistry and mineralogy... and all new members.
NZGeMS aims to maximise interactions among interested
scientists, while
minimising paperwork that is often associated with professional
organisations. Membership subscriptions are low and NZGeMS
conferences have a tradition of being friendly, low key and
largely independent of the influence of employing institutions. There
are currently over
120 financial members from universities, Crown ResearchInstitutes,
consultancies, and interested amateurs.
